Over 30 Independent MPs Seek Cooperation Deal with NRM
Over 30 independent MPs have expressed interest in working with the ruling National Resistance Movement after a meeting at the party headquarters in Kampala. Speaker Anita Annet Among welcomed the move, assuring them that cooperation with the party will not affect their independent status, as discussions begin on a formal working agreement.
More than 30 independent Members of Parliament have expressed interest in working with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), in a move that could strengthen coordination and influence within Parliament.
The development emerged during a meeting held at the NRM party headquarters in Nakasero, Kampala, where the legislators began the process of formally signing expressions of interest to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the party.
Addressing the meeting, the Speaker of Parliament and NRM Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), Anita Annet Among, welcomed the independent MPs and reassured them that their decision to collaborate would not undermine their identity as independents.
Among emphasized that the arrangement is aimed at fostering cooperation in legislative work while promoting unity in advancing national priorities.
The move reflects a broader strategy by the NRM to consolidate support in Parliament by building alliances beyond its core party members, particularly with independents who often play a pivotal role in shaping debate and influencing key decisions in the House.
