Anne Juuko Resigns as Regional Head, East Africa at Standard Bank Group

Nairobi — Anne Juuko, the Regional Head for East Africa – Global Markets at Standard Bank Group, has resigned from her role, effective 30 November 2025, Agookya can exclusively reveal.

Juuko’s departure ends a 13-year career at Africa’s largest banking group, during which she became one of the region’s most influential financial sector leaders. Her career trajectory at the Group included roles such as Head of Global Markets at Stanbic Bank Uganda, Head of Corporate & Investment Banking at Standard Bank Namibia, and Chief Executive of Stanbic Bank Uganda.

In her most recent position, Juuko oversaw Global Markets operations across seven countries — Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, DR Congo, South Sudan, Malawi, and Zambia — driving strategic partnerships, enhancing regional competitiveness, and contributing to the Group’s multi-market growth agenda.

An internal communication praised Juuko for her role in executing several large sovereign trades across the region and for diversifying the Group’s product offerings and revenue streams. Sources described her exit as “significant” and “unexpected,” given her central role in shaping the Group’s East Africa Global Markets strategy.

During her tenure as CEO of Stanbic Bank Uganda, Juuko navigated the bank through the COVID-19 pandemic, championed financial inclusion for SACCOs, spearheaded the Stanbic4Her programme for women entrepreneurs, and oversaw the rapid expansion of FlexiPay, one of Uganda’s fastest-growing digital financial platforms.

Standard Bank Group expressed gratitude for Juuko’s “dedication, courage, leadership and contributions over the years,” but no information has been provided regarding her successor or next professional steps.

Her resignation marks one of the most notable leadership exits within the Group’s regional operations in recent years, with potential implications for Standard Bank’s strategy and market positioning across East Africa.
