Otafiire rejects Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s presidential ambitions
Just weeks after President Museveni’s re-election in January 2026 for a seventh term, NRM veteran Otafiire declared he does not support Muhoozi Kainerugaba as president, saying: “Muhoozi will never rule this country. It’s not family business.”
The remarks highlight growing succession tensions within the ruling party, as Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces, faces both supporters who hail him as a fresh leader and critics questioning his suitability.
While backers such as Hon Mwesigye Frank insist voters will decide, Otafiire’s statements have fueled open rifts ahead of the 2031 elections.
