KAMPALA – Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has fully endorsed Jacob Marksons Oboth-Oboth, popularly known as Jacob Oboth-Oboth, as the next Speaker of Uganda’s Parliament for the 2026–2031 term.
Oboth-Oboth, the elected Member of Parliament for West Budama County South under the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and State Minister for Defence, now emerges as a strong contender to succeed the outgoing Speaker Anita Among.
Political analysts say this move effectively sidelines Among, whose leadership style and reforms in the previous Parliament had drawn mixed reactions. Gen. Muhoozi’s endorsement signals a clear shift in influence, suggesting that Oboth-Oboth may carry the weight of both military and political backing into the new Parliament.
