Alexander Isak Criticises Newcastle Over “Broken Promises” Amid Transfer Stand-Off
Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has publicly stated that promises made to him by the club have been “broken” and that the relationship can’t continue, as he seeks a move this summer.
The Sweden international has been at the centre of a transfer saga since Newcastle rejected Liverpool’s £110m bid for him 19 days ago. Sources say Isak believed he would be allowed to leave if a big club met the right price.
In an Instagram statement explaining his absence from the Professional Footballers’ Association awards gala, where he was named in the Premier League Team of the Season, Isak wrote:
“When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. That’s where things are for me right now — and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.”
Liverpool have yet to submit an improved offer, and questions remain over whether Isak will rejoin first-team training or whether a deal can be completed before the 1 September transfer deadline.
The 25-year-old forward has become the biggest talking point of the summer transfer window, and uncertainty continues over his next move.
