Bobi Is Not My Leader! Munyagwa Reveals Why He Refused to Join NUP

Former Kawempe South MP Hon. Mubarak Munyagwa has come out swinging, flatly denying ever requesting a political party ticket from Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP).

In a no-holds-barred statement, Munyagwa said he would “never be guided by someone who is not superior to me”, referring directly to Bobi Wine, and insisted he has never made any move to join NUP.

“If Bobi claims I ever asked for a ticket from him, he is being dishonest,” Munyagwa said. “I will never work under someone who I know doesn’t match my capabilities.”

Not Impressed by Bobi's Offer

Munyagwa, who previously served under the FDC banner, says the only time he met Bobi Wine was during a private visit to Magere, where the NUP leader lives.

The meeting, facilitated by MP Francis Mwijukye, was over breakfast served by Bobi's wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi.

During the visit, Bobi is said to have offered Munyagwa the position of deputy in his political structure and shared his plans. But Munyagwa wasn’t sold.

“I turned it down. I knew joining NUP would bring conflict, and I didn’t want to be branded a Museveni mole,” he said. “It was better to walk away.”

Enter the Common Man’s Party

Now, Munyagwa has officially launched his own political group — the Common Man’s Party — signaling a fresh rivalry with the People Power movement.

He took a direct jab at NUP during the launch, accusing it of lacking direction and targeting fellow opposition politicians, rather than building unity.

‘I Respected Besigye. I Won’t Respect Bobi’

Munyagwa made it clear that while he has criticized political figures like President Museveni and Dr. Kizza Besigye, he always maintained respect for leadership — something he feels Bobi hasn’t earned.

“I respected Besigye even when we disagreed. I can criticise Museveni without being disrespectful. But with Bobi, there is nothing that draws me to him. We cannot be in the same party,” he declared.
