“She’s Not Underage!” Gashumba Slams Critics of His Relationship with Young Bride Malaika

Controversial social-political commentator Frank Gashumba has hit back at critics questioning his relationship with his significantly younger partner, Patience Mutoni Malaika, declaring she is of legal age and their love is nobody’s business.

Gashumba, 50, ended his two-decade bachelor streak last week after being formally introduced to Malaika’s parents in Lwemiyaga, a traditional step in Ugandan marriage customs.

But what should have been a moment of celebration was met with a wave of social media scrutiny. While many congratulated the Sisimuka Uganda founder on finding love, others were quick to raise eyebrows at the noticeable age gap between the couple, with Malaika appearing to be in her early 20s.

Now, in a no-holds-barred radio interview, Gashumba has come out swinging, branding his critics as “failures” who have “never introduced a man to their parents.”

“Is she underage?” he fired back.
“Who are these people criticising us on social media? Do I even know them? Most of the people attacking Malaika are failures. They are women who indulge in bad habits. They've been in countless relationships and have never introduced a man to their parents.”

Gashumba didn’t hold back in defending both himself and his bride, making it clear that their relationship was built on consent, culture, and personal choice — not public approval.

“Why do you think I left all the options here and travelled all the way to Lwemiyaga to find her? It shows that the most valuable treasures are often hidden far and deep,” he said, romanticising the journey to meet his now-fiancée.

Social media reactions have remained divided, with some praising the couple’s confidence and commitment, while others insist that power dynamics and maturity differences shouldn’t be brushed aside so easily.

Regardless, it’s clear Gashumba is standing firm, dismissing the noise, and unapologetically embracing the next chapter of his life with Malaika.
