Kampala, Uganda – The 14th edition of the Rotary Cancer Run was officially launched, highlighting the importance of cancer awareness and early action.
The 2025 event, themed “Awareness to Personal Action,” is scheduled for 31 August at Kololo Independence Grounds and was inaugurated by Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick.
Speaking during the activation of the Gayaza Road corridor Rotary Clubs—which included Rotary clubs of Gayaza, Kanyanya, Kiwedde, Kiteezi, Kasangati, and Manyangwa Nakwero—Past District Governor Francis X. Sentamu urged the public to act on their health.
“Most people are dying because they lack awareness and fail to take action. It’s vital for individuals to get tested, seek medical attention, and ensure they stay healthy,” he said.
The activation featured a peace awareness cancer walk from People's Medical Hospital along Gayaza-Kasangati Road, passing Kasangati High School and Bulamu, before returning to the hospital.
Stephen Mwanje, Vision Bearer of the Cancer Centre at Nsambya Hospital, said the complex is on track for completion by 2027. Afterward, Rotary plans to equip the facility and support the Uganda Cancer Foundation, which will raise funds to assist patients who cannot afford treatment.
