Museveni set to appoint former Ethiopian Airlines CEO Girma Wake as Uganda Airlines boss

President Museveni has removed Uganda Airlines CEO Jenifer Bamuturaki, signaling a major leadership overhaul at the national carrier as government moves to stabilise and reposition the airline.

Sources say the President, who last month ordered investigations into alleged mismanagement, is keen on a complete management reset aimed at improving performance and long-term sustainability.

Mr Museveni is reportedly considering Girma Wake, former Ethiopian Airlines chief executive (2004–2011) and later board chair, to lead the airline. The move reflects government’s interest in drawing from proven African aviation leadership.

Ethiopian Airlines is widely regarded as Africa’s most successful carrier, known for operational efficiency, fleet expansion, and profitability.

The President is said to be seeking a leadership team able to operate without internal friction or political interference as Uganda Airlines seeks to realise its full commercial and strategic potential.
