“Museveni Still the Mountain – Others Just Hills”
Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, has downplayed the rising number of presidential aspirants, arguing that they lack the political depth and national appeal needed to challenge President Museveni in the 2026 elections.
Speaking on NBS Frontline Thursday night, Baryomunsi drew a sharp contrast between local political strength and national electability.
“Parliamentary elections and Presidential elections are miles apart,” he said. “You can be strong in your area, but things are different at the Presidential level.”
His comments follow the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC)'s endorsement of Nathan Nandala Mafabi as its 2026 presidential flag bearer.
While Baryomunsi acknowledged Uganda’s multiparty system, he reiterated that the NRM remains the dominant political force.
“None of these aspirants is a match for President Museveni,” he said, reaffirming the party’s confidence ahead of the next election cycle.
