Former presidential candidate Robert Kasibante, has filed an application with the Supreme Court seeking permission to withdraw his petition challenging the election results.

In the application, Kasibante cited prohibitive costs and the complexity of pursuing further legal proceedings as key reasons for his request. The petition had been filed against President-elect Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Electoral Commission, and the Attorney General.

Background to the petition includes several allegations raised by Kasibante, including discrepancies between votes tallied at polling stations and the final declared results, the adoption and application of the 2025 Biometric Voter Verification System regulations, failure to integrate the National Voters Register with biometric technology, the holding of elections in ungazetted polling stations, and claims of partisan involvement of the army in the electoral process.

Kasibante, who contested on the National Peasants Party ticket, finished sixth in the election. If granted, the withdrawal would formally end his legal challenge to the presidential poll outcomes.

The Supreme Court is yet to set a date to consider the application, which could officially close one of the remaining post-election petitions before the court.
