Rajiv Ruparelia dies in expressway crash
Rajiv Ruparelia, the son of prominent Ugandan businessman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, has died in a road crash on the Entebbe Expressway.
Police say the incident occurred at around 01:54 a.m. on Saturday, 3 May 2025, at the Busabala Flyover in Makindye-Ssabagabo, Wakiso District.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the 35-year-old was driving a white Nissan GTR (registration number UAT 638L) when the vehicle reportedly hit temporary road barriers at a roundabout, overturned, and caught fire.
“He died at the scene. Investigations are ongoing,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.
Preliminary findings suggest that the car was travelling from Kajjansi toward Munyonyo at the time of the crash.
Mr Ruparelia was a key figure in the Ruparelia Group, one of Uganda’s largest business conglomerates with interests in real estate, education, hospitality, and finance.
The news has sparked an outpouring of grief across Uganda, with many expressing shock over the sudden death of the businessman and rally driver.
