Bukoto South MP Twaha Kagabo Claims He Was Cheated in NRM Primaries

Bukoto South MP Dr. Twaha Kagabo has reversed his earlier concession of defeat in the recent NRM primary elections, alleging that the process was rigged against him.

On July 17, Kagabo publicly conceded defeat to Hajji Muyanja Mbabaali, who won with 4,965 votes against Kagabo’s 2,501. He congratulated Mbabaali and pledged to support him. However, just weeks later, Kagabo took to X (formerly Twitter) to claim he was cheated and vowed to run as an independent candidate in the 2026 general elections.

He said his supporters urged him to challenge the results to ensure accountability for what he termed “vote theft” in the party primaries. Kagabo posted that NRM supporters in Bukoto South are determined to make vote rigging costly and demanded that the will of the people prevail.

Kagabo declined to comment further on his previous concession, directing inquiries to his social media account.

A surgeon by profession, Kagabo was initially elected to Parliament on the National Unity Platform ticket in 2021 but defected to the NRM in May 2025.

His political career has seen controversies, including an investigation into a Shs. 40 million cash gift that he attempted to return, which led to temporary detention and parliamentary proceedings. He was later cleared but required to apologise publicly.

Kagabo’s defection to NRM followed a meeting with President Museveni and ruling party leaders, where he expressed appreciation for the government’s achievements despite his opposition background.
